The short version
We make a running coach. We collect what we need to coach you and to run the service.
We do not sell your information, we do not advertise to you, and there are no advertising trackers in our app or on our website.
You can ask us for a copy of your data or ask us to delete it, and we will do it.
Who we are
Coach b Run Club is operated by Coach b Athletics LLC, a limited liability company registered in Oregon, United States. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean Coach b Athletics LLC.
privacy@coachbrunclub.com
Where we offer Coach b
Coach b is not offered in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, and by using it you confirm you are not accessing it from there.
You must be 18 or over.
We are a United States company, and your information is stored and processed in the United States by us and by the providers listed below.
What this policy covers
The Coach b app and the website at coachbrunclub.com. The two collect very different amounts of information, so they are separate below.
It does not cover what another company does inside its own product. If you connect Strava or Apple Health, their own privacy policies govern what they do with your information.
The website
The website is a marketing site. It sets no cookies, has no analytics, no advertising trackers, no third-party fonts and no third-party scripts of any kind.
The only personal information it collects is the one thing you can type into it. If you give us your email address to be told when we launch, we store that address and the time you gave it to us, and nothing else. We use it to send you one message when the app is available. After that send, we delete the list.
If you want off the list before then, email privacy@coachbrunclub.com and we will remove you.
What the app collects
Your account. Your email address, your name if you give one, and the sign-in codes and tokens that let you into your account.
About you. Your date of birth, which we use to check that you are old enough and to wish you a happy birthday, and your gender, which we use for physiological framing in your training and nothing else.
Your running. Your goals and races, how much you currently run, how long your recent long run was, how experienced you are, which days you can train, your past racing and how a recent race went, and your unit preference.
Your injuries and how you feel. Any injury history you give us, any niggles you tell us about in your own words, and anything you say about being unwell.
Your training and activity. Runs you complete or enter yourself: distance, duration, pace, elevation, cadence, heart rate, perceived effort, splits, and any notes you add. When a run comes from a connected service it also carries the coordinates of where it started. See below.
Your sleep, if you connect Apple Health. See below.
Your conversations. What you write to Coach b and what he writes back, your journal entries, your post-run notes, and your answers during onboarding.
Where you are, if you tell us. A place name you type into your account settings, so we can get the weather for your runs. We do not use your device's location. The app never asks for location permission. If you leave the field empty, we skip weather.
How you use the app. Which screens you open and which actions you take. This is linked to your account and includes your email and name, because we need to know that a pattern of use belongs to a particular person.
Errors. Diagnostic information when something breaks.
Your membership. Whether you have an active subscription and the periods it covers. We never see or store your card details.
Push notifications. If you allow them, a token that lets us send one to your device.
Your consents. What you agreed to, when, and which version of this policy and our Terms you agreed to.
Health information, including what you say to Coach b
Coach b coaches your running, not your body. He is not a doctor and nothing in the app is medical advice.
But he reads what you write, and people write about how they feel. If you tell him your calf is sore, that you slept badly, that you are run down, or that something outside running is making this a hard week, he processes it and he responds to it. That is what makes him useful, and it means we hold information about your physical and mental health.
We also derive information from what you write. When you describe how a run felt, we turn that into structured readings about soreness, fatigue and effort, and we keep your own words alongside them.
And if you tell him you are going through something hard, we make a note of that too. It is so Coach b eases off the messages he would otherwise start, and so he does not follow a difficult week with a cheerful nudge about your long run.
We ask for your permission before we process any of this, when you set up your account, and we record that you gave it and which version of this policy you gave it against. Because the coaching is built on this information, the way to withdraw it is to delete your account, which you can do in the app.
We use it to coach you. We do not use it to advertise to you, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with anyone outside the list below.
Apple Health and Apple Watch
If you connect Apple Health, we read your runs and your sleep each time you open the app.
We only ever read. We never write anything to Apple Health. And we will not take anything at all unless your health-data permission is current.
Your sleep reaches Coach b's conversation, so he can respond to a bad night, and it is sent to Anthropic as part of that conversation. It is never used to build your training plan.
We do not sync in the background. Nothing is read unless you open the app.
You can turn our access off at any time in Apple's Health settings.
Strava and your run locations
If you connect Strava, we receive your activities. Along with distance, pace and heart rate, each activity carries the coordinates of the point where the run started.
We use them to look up the weather and air quality at that place and time, so Coach b knows what conditions you ran in.
Those coordinates are precise, and for most people a run starts at or near home.
We keep them with the activity, along with the rest of the run.
You can disconnect Strava at any time, which stops us receiving new activities.
How Coach b works, and what that means
Your training plan is built by a coaching engine, which follows fixed rules, using what you have told us and what you have run. Coach b's messages, and his replies when you talk to him, are written by an AI model.
No human reviews a plan or a message before you see it. You can ignore, change or stop following any plan at any time. If you want to talk to a person about something the coach did, email us.
He has limits built in. If you describe symptoms that warrant a doctor, he may tell you to see one. If you say something that suggests you are in crisis, he may give you crisis resources. He is not a substitute for either.
Paying for Coach b
Apple handles payment. We never see or store your card details.
During beta, nothing is charged at all. Beta athletes are given access at no cost.
When Coach b is paid, subscriptions are bought through the App Store, and Apple's own terms govern billing, renewal, cancellation and refunds. We keep a record that you have a subscription and the periods it covers.
Who we share it with
Each company below gets only what it needs.
| Who | What they get |
|---|---|
| Anthropic | The prompts we build for Coach b's messages and replies. In practice that is your first name, what you write to Coach b, your journal entries, your post-run notes, your onboarding answers, your injuries and how you have been feeling, your sleep, the place name you gave us, your training and plan, and the readings we derive from your words. It does not include your email address or any account identifier. Anthropic keeps what we send for up to 30 days and may access it for safety and security purposes. |
| Supabase | Our database, which is everything above, and your sign-in identity. Hosted in the western United States. |
| Apple | Notification content and your device token, so Apple can deliver notifications to you. Apple also handles your subscription and payment. |
| PostHog | Product analytics: which screens and actions, plus your email, name, subscription status and profile settings. Never the content of your conversations, your journal or anything else you write. Approximate location derived from your device's IP address. |
| Resend, and Amazon SES underneath it | The recipient, subject and body of emails we send you, and whether they arrived. Resend keeps your email address and first name in its own sending logs. |
| Sentry | Error and diagnostic information. Your IP address and headers are not attached. If you request a copy of your data, that request carries your email address into our error tooling. |
| Redis Cloud | Short-lived caches: session context, recent training context, resolved weather coordinates, and rate-limiting keys. All of it expires on its own. |
| OpenWeatherMap | Coordinates, to return weather and air quality. |
| Strava, if you connect it | The permission you grant, and a subscription to your new activities. |
We also rely on Cloudflare and Render, which carry and host our traffic and therefore see the requests your app and browser make.
Render also holds our application logs, which record enough to diagnose problems and can include location coordinates and account identifiers. Those logs rotate on Render's schedule rather than ours.
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, as those terms are used in California law. We never have.
We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or someone's safety, and we would tell you unless we were legally prevented from doing so.
Where your information goes
We are in the United States and so are most of our providers. OpenWeatherMap, which provides our weather, is in the United Kingdom.
Wherever you are, using Coach b means your information is transferred to and stored in the United States, and handled there by the companies listed above.
How long we keep it
While your account is open we keep your information, because a coach with no memory of your training is not a coach.
We do not delete things on a timer. We keep what you give us until you ask us to delete it, or until you delete your account.
Some things are shorter by design. Session and weather caches expire on their own, within hours or days.
Some things outlive the account and we want to be specific about which. We keep payment and membership records for as long as tax and accounting law requires. If you ask us never to email you again, we keep your address on a suppression list so we can honour that. We keep a record that an account was deleted, which contains a one-way hash of the account identifier and no personal information. And our email, error and hosting providers keep their own logs on their own schedules, as do our own application logs.
The launch list is deleted once the app has launched and we have sent the one email.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from within the app, and it works even if your subscription has lapsed.
Deleting your account does not cancel your Apple subscription. Only you can do that, in your Apple settings, and we cannot do it for you.
When you delete, we delete your data from our database, and we ask PostHog to delete theirs, including your analytics events, and revoke our Strava connection.
Some providers are not reached by that process, because they hold operational records rather than your account: Anthropic, which holds what we sent it under its own 30-day retention; Resend, which holds its record of emails sent to you; Sentry, which holds any diagnostic events; and Apple, which holds its own subscription and notification records.
We also delete your sign-in identity. That step is handled separately and can occasionally fail, so if you want confirmation that your sign-in details are gone, email privacy@coachbrunclub.com and we will check.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, and we will do it.
A copy of your data covers your own records, including your consents, your membership periods and the topics Coach b has recapped with you.
In California you have the right to know what we collect and disclose, to delete it, to correct it, and not to be treated differently for exercising those rights. We do not sell your information or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of.
To exercise any of these, use account deletion in the app, or email privacy@coachbrunclub.com. A data request is handled by a person rather than an automated export, and we will respond within one month and tell you if we need longer.
Turning off notifications stops us messaging you. It does not stop us processing your training, which is what the coach runs on.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, tell us first at privacy@coachbrunclub.com. If we cannot resolve it, you can complain to the data protection authority where you live.
If you are under 18
Coach b is for adults. You must be 18 or over to use it.
We ask your age when you set up your account. If the answer is under 18 we check that we read it correctly, in case of a typo, and then we stop.
A stopped account receives nothing and is never coached, and we delete it automatically: within the hour if the stated age is under 13, and after 30 days if it is 13 to 17.
If you believe a child has given us information, email privacy@coachbrunclub.com and we will delete it.
Security
Encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and the ordinary care you would expect. Your Strava tokens are encrypted at rest. No service can promise perfect security. If we have a breach that affects you, we will tell you and the relevant regulator as the law requires.
Changes
We will change the date at the top, and if a change is significant we will tell you in the app and ask you to accept it before it takes effect. We will not quietly widen what we do with your information.
